One of the best methods of growing your Rotary Club membership is to make your community aware that you are there and what your Rotary Club does. A fun and rewarding method of doing this is with a Community Award Program.
Examples of possible Community Award Programs include:
Teacher of the month, semester, or year
Student of the month, semester, or year
Policeman of the month, quarter, or year
Fireman of the month, quarter, or year
Citizen of the month, quarter, or year
Business of the month, quarter, or year
Athlete of the month, quarter, or year
Business Person of the month, quarter, or year
Choose an area or two of interest to your Rotary Club and talk with the related organizations develop the criteria to be used for selecting the recipient. This may range from your Club establishing the specific criteria to letting the organization determine the criteria. For those Clubs wanting hands on involvement, have the organizations submit several recommendations of recipients for your Club to select from. For those Clubs wanting less direct involvement simply have the organization make the selection.
Present the award either at one of your regular Rotary Club meetings or have a group of your Club members go to the recipient for the presentation. Make sure to take pictures of the presentation. Send a copy of the pictures and a few words describing the presentation to your local paper. In addition publish the photo and text to the Internet as part of your Rotary Club's website, Facebook update, or blog update. If your Club doesn't have a web presence yet, consider starting one.
