Facebook's rules of use discourage organizations and companies from having a Facebook account. Instead a special application has been developed within Facebook for the use of organizations and companies. This is know as the Fan Page. You can create a Fan Page for your Rotary Club and all your members may become Fans. The Fan Page offers many powerful options not available to the individual Facebook user.
The Facebook Fan Page is a place to house all the pertinent information about your Rotary Club. The Fan Page is very useful as it may include everything that relates to your rotary Club in one place with the advantage of easily sharing with a large built-in potential audience.
The Fan Page is very easy to update. Just as with your personal Facebook profile, updates are as easy as logging in and typing or uploading.
Once you have logged into Facebook, simply scroll down to the very bottom of the page and click on the word Advertising (located in the group of words to the right). The list of options in the column to the left will include the word Pages with a flag icon in front. Click on Pages. Near the top of the screen will appear a option to Create a Page. Select this option. For Category select the second radio button labeled Brand, Product, or Organization and in the box enter the Name of the Page (for example Rotary Club of XYZ). Then click on the Create Page button.
The more information you add about your Club the better. Google and other search engines thing highly of Facebook in the search results. The more information posted on the Fan Page Wall the easier you will be found in the search engines.
